Azithromycin Dihydrate 500 mg is a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic used for the treatment of various bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, skin, soft tissues, ear, nose, throat, and certain sexually transmitted infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth and spread of bacteria.
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, preventing protein synthesis and inhibiting bacterial growth.
Indications
Used in the treatment of:
- Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
- Tonsillitis and pharyngitis
- Sinusitis and bronchitis
- Pneumonia
- Ear infections (Otitis media)
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Typhoid fever
- Certain sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea and chlamydial infections
Dosage & Administration
- To be taken orally as directed by a physician.
- Can be taken with or without food.
- Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve early.
